Laurels Home Care welcomes the new Dementia Strategy

Laurels Home Care welcomes the new Dementia Strategy

The new Dementia Strategy (Department of Health, 2009) sets out the government’s strategy for dementia for the next 5 years. The strategy introduces 3 key steps to improve the quality of life for people with dementia and their carers:

  1. Ensure better knowledge about dementia and remove stigma
  2. Ensure early diagnosis, support & treatment for people with dementia and their family and carers
  3. Develop services to meet changing needs

The strategy identified that many people do not realise that there are ways of supporting and treating people with dementia. People with dementia and their careers need to be supported and cared for by a trained workforce, with the right knowledge, skills and understanding of dementia to offer the best quality care and support.

The strategy outlines the need to develop a range of services that fully meet the changing needs of people with dementia and their families and the need to help people with dementia stay in their own home for longer.
Evidence shows that there is considerable benefits, to people with dementia and their carers, from specialist dementia home care compared with standard home care services www.dh.gov.uk/dementia.

Laurels Home Care have developed their services to provide specialist dementia home care service which provides good quality sensitive support to people with dementia, and their families, with a range of flexible and reliable services to meet their needs and wishes. Laurels Home Care staff have the right skills and training to give the best care to a person, in their own home, to maintain independence and live with dementia.
